I moved to NYC a couple of years ago, and while I had to work hard to find a new cafe/pizzeria/nail salon/etc, I decided to stick with my dentist back in Maryland, since you only see a dentist a couple of times a year. I just made appointments to see her when I was home for the holidays. About to year ago, my family started to suspect that she was overcharging us. We looked into it, and it turns out she had been filing incorrect insurance claims and recommending unnecessary procedures. Once my family realized this was happening, they immediately moved to a different practice. However, it didn't make sense for me to do the same since I was living in New York. I found Emagen Dental because everyone in my office goes here. After reading all of the amazing Yelp reviews about the practice, I immediately called up and made an appointment. They're usually booked out pretty far for early evening appointments, but there had been a last minute cancellation and I got an appointment for the next day! In short, Dr. Urtula is amazing. He noticed that my retainers didn't fit perfectly, and offered to make me a set of new ones for free! Retainers are super expensive and I was so impressed by the fact that he genuinely cares about his patients. Quite a different experience from the one I'd had with my previous dentist!Dr. Urtula and all of his assistants have great bedside manner. They always make me feel comfortable on every visit. I also really appreciate that he tells it like it is. Instead of trying to sell me on fancy electric toothbrushes, he explained that nothing really changes when a toothbrush company comes out with a new model, and that it makes just as much sense to buy an older model. No one needs a bluetooth connected toothbrush that will basically brush your teeth for you. He also explained that normal toothbrushes are perfectly fine, as long as you don't brush so hard and ruin your enamel. This advice was really helpful, and since then, I have actually started brushing the right way! I have very sensitive teeth, and have found that they're less sensitive now that I'm more conscious about scrubbing too hard when I brush. They text you a reminder two weeks before your appointment, which is a nice touch since e-mails like that usually get lost in my inbox. I'm so glad I found Emagen Dental, and can't wait to go back for my next appointment in 2 weeks. Can you believe I just said I can't wait for my next dentist appointment.....?? Yeah - me either!
