Dr. Gregory E. Lutz is the Founder and Medical Director of Regenerative SportsCare Institute (RSI). In addition, he is Physiatrist-In-Chief Emeritus at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and a Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Dr. Lutz has been named to New York Magazine’s and Castle Connolly’s “Top Doctors” lists for the past 15 years in a row. With over 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Lutz is one of the world’s leading experts in the fields of regenerative sports medicine and interventional orthopedics, specializing in intradiscal biologic injections and the non-surgical management of spine and joint injuries. He has pioneered novel approaches to the treatment of degenerative disc disease and other musculoskeletal disorders, using regenerative procedures (platelet-rich plasma, stem cell, and fibrin injections) to successfully treat many injuries previously considered incurable. Dr. Lutz matriculated to Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1984, having graduated from Drew University magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He obtained his medical degree from Georgetown in 1988 and was awarded the Margaret M. Kenrick Achievement Award in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. From 1989 to 1992, Dr. Lutz pursued his specialty training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, before coming to Hospital for Special Surgery in 1992 to complete his training through an Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship. He has been in practice at Hospital for Special Surgery since 1993. In 1997, Dr. Lutz founded the Physiatry Department at Hospital for Special Surgery, becoming its first Physiatrist-in-Chief. Under Dr. Lutz’ 15-year leadership, with the support of his colleagues and the hospital administration, the department grew to become one of the largest outpatient musculoskeletal practices in the world. During his tenure as Chief, Dr. Lutz established the Spine & Sports Medicine Fellowship at HSS and has since mentored more than 60 fellows in practice throughout the USA.
