Lanny Garth Close, M.D. is Professor of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He served as the Howard W. Smith Professor and Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center from 1994 to 2013. Dr. Close received his medical degree with honors (AOA) from Baylor College of Medicine in 1972 and trained in general surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by specialty training in Otolaryngology at Baylor College of Medicine affiliated hospitals. He completed fellowship training in Head and Neck Surgery at the M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute in 1979.
