Melissa Richard, O.D., M.S. earned her Doctor of Optometry and Masters Degree in Low Vision Rehabilitation from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2006 where she graduated with Highest Honors. Prior to attending optometry school, she received her Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology from the University of Delaware. Dr. Richard’s clinical training focused on low vision rehabilitation as well as diagnosing, treating, and co-managing ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and retinal disease. Among her several training sites were the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lebanon, PA and The Feinbloom Center at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia. Dr. Richard was involved in the week-long VISOR program at the VA Hospital where she prescribed low vision devices and assisted in training a group of visually-impaired veterans to use those devices to remain independent. Since graduating optometry school, she has worked in a variety of settings, including an exclusively low vision practice based in Delaware County, a busy hospital in Philadelphia, and a large ophthalmology practice where she co-managed cataract surgery and glaucoma patients.
