Dr. Monte Pellmar grew up in Queens, New York. He has always had an artistic flair, and at the age of five, he admired the work of a mason on a neighborhood project. After watching the project progress, he told the mason that he wished to become a mason, too. The mason was flattered but told him to become a doctor. That goal stayed with him through his college years and medical school. Dr. Pellmar was able to attain academic excellence and pursue his artistic abilities through photography. His pictures can be seen throughout the office. Dr. Pellmar is a dedicated physician, husband, father, and grandfather. He is passionate about keeping up with his medical expertise and treating his patients as individuals. He integrates his love of travel, learning, and caring with his neurological practice, while striving to provide updated treatments with old-fashioned, hands-on physician-patient relationships. He attended medical school at UMDNJ, now Rutgers Medical School and graduated in 1974. He later completed an internship at Maimonides Medical Center and completed his medical residency at New Jersey Medical School and neurology residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, from 1976 to 1979. He has had a private practice of neurology since 1979. Dr. Pellmar founded the Headache and Neurological Care Center of New Jersey in 2005. Dr. Pellmar has practiced in Monmouth County for more than 34 years. He's a Board Certified Neurologist and has been so since 1980. He's a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and is Board Certified in Headache Medicine since 2006. He is also Board Certified in Medical Acupuncture since 1997. Today, Dr. Pellmar continues to practice neurology with an emphasis on treating patients with headaches. He utilizes botulinum toxin for treatment of chronic migraines and has instructed other physicians on performing the procedure.
